Insulin Pump Management Program

About

Client: Directorate-General for Health
Sector: Administração Pública e Governamental
Solution: Insulin Pump Management Program

Problem

Insulin pumps have brought a significant quality of life to patients suffering from diabetes. The difficulty in allocating insulin pumps by the Directorate-General of Health (DGS) lies in their monitoring: Is the patient’s pump at the end of its life? Is it a new patient, and if so, are they on a waiting list or has the pump already been allocated? How many and which patients have an allocated pump? Are there pumps to be delivered to patients? How many exist and from which supplier? Are there defective pumps? If so, which ones and from which patients?

Answering these and many other questions involved a great deal of time and numerous DGS human resources to deliver the insulin pump to the patient in a timely manner and maintain its tracking.

Solution

For this business activity, the solution was the creation of an application based on the Masterlink Platform, rather than developing it from scratch.

Masterlink technology features a set of engines that allow, through no-code configuration, the simple construction of data flows, forms, and the interconnection between various processes.

Advantages

With this application, it has become easy to monitor the registration of insulin pumps in patients suffering from diabetes. The insulin pump management platform streamlines the allocation of insulin pumps to patients through an evaluation and validation process, reducing the bureaucracy of the natural process involved in allocating the pump to the user.

The initiative also allows for cost control, as the application simultaneously includes management processes for patients, pumps, suppliers, and hospital centers.

The platform offers total flexibility in changing the data model according to new needs – via the interface – while also allowing for the addition of new states to the data flow.

No less important is the autonomy that Masterlink technology delivers to its users; since the application remains on the client side, it allows them to configure new fields and stages or even obtain grouped data listings to assess less obvious information.

The management of specific hospital supplies is also ensured, centralized in an application accessible across all hospital units, where each manages its own stock. In this way, this application assists diabetic patients in the rapid and streamlined delivery of insulin pumps, while ensuring rigorous cost control.

In summary, the patient wins because their pump is allocated or replaced more quickly, and the healthcare system wins because the expenses inherent to the pumps allocated to patients suffering from diabetes are controlled and monitored in real time.

Masterlink remains available to support other entities on this transformation journey.
